A user manual for me

I’ve seen some people share their designs about a Service Design Manual for Me recently and thought hmm I need one of those.

This is a useful thing for new starters and existing people in a team / organisation know how to get the best working relationship and achieve desired goals.

What is my User Manual?

This is a process that is most often found in Agile teams working together on common goals. It can be used to help bring together resources from a range of teams and locations and to get the best out of people.

There is a team playbook available via Atlassian if you want to run this with your own teams that takes a couple of hours available here and some examples that gave me inspiration here

The high level things I focused on were:

  1. Conditions I like to work in
  2. Times / Hours I like to work
  3. The best ways to communicate with me
  4. The ways I like to receive feedback
  5. Things I need
  6. Things I struggle with
  7. Things I love
  8. Other things to know about me
A service manual for Ben Sewell image with key headings and narrative of how I work and what my preferences of working are.

It was good to reflect about my approach to work and working style preferences. I used this to share with my team and I’ll encourage contributions from all team members with a hope that we all get to know a bit more about each other and our preferences for working that lead to better outcomes.

I’ll keep this as a live document and review every now and again.
